A Dream Placement at NSG for Two Cumbrian Students
As part of our CSR commitments, we are pleased to support the Centre for Leadership Performance's unique and innovative Dream Placement scheme, which brings together the brightest and boldest young students of Cumbria with some of the most forward-looking and successful businesses in the county.
For the selected students, the scheme is no ordinary work experience — it provides a unique opportunity to see how the senior teams and leaders of industry go about dealing with the challenges they face on a daily basis. The scheme consists of four key interactions between the students and the host companies, which started with the Selection Event in December and culminates with the Showcase Event on March 18th. In between these events, the students and companies met at the Development Day on January 31st, where they participated in a day of activities to prepare them for the highlight of the scheme: the Dream Placement Week.

At the Selection Event, we were delighted to welcome two students: Caitlin Fox, a sixth form student from Millom; and Connor Wright, a sixth form student from Egremont. During their placement weeks in February half term, Caitlin and Connor spent time at our head office in Chorley and on site at our office at LLW Repository Ltd in West Cumbria, shadowing senior managers and directors during their day-to-day activities. The students, both aspiring engineers, also observed director-level strategic and project meetings, and discussed the various opportunities available within the nuclear industry with some of our senior scientists and engineers.
John Morris, Managing Director of NSG, commented:
The Dream Placement scheme is a fantastic initiative, offering aspiring young Cumbrians a unique and rewarding experience of the world of work. During their stay, Caitlin and Connor spent time with our directors and senior managers, seeing how they lead their teams in a number of different situations. We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting the students and wish them all the best in their future careers.

At the Showcase Event in March, Caitlin and Connor will present ‘Career Opportunities at NSG’ and share their placement experiences with the other participating students and businesses.
We are also delighted to announce that we have received the Industrial Cadets Silver accreditation for the “excellent programme [we] had put together for the placements”. As a result, Caitlin and Connor will receive Silver certificates at the Showcase Event.
