Q. What was your impression of the nuclear industry before you started working in it?

A. I had no real understanding of the nuclear industry; I had never met anyone who was a part of it, nor had I realised the significant contribution it makes to the energy requirements of the UK.

Q. Describe your career journey to this point.

A. Whilst in my second year at university, I undertook a work experience placement with NSG. It was during this time that NSG showed me the opportunities the nuclear industry had to offer. I joined NSG upon graduation, starting the Project Controls Apprenticeship scheme in August 2020.

Q. What do you enjoy most about your role?

A. I enjoy the variety of work and roles I have been able to undertake as part of my apprenticeship, as well as all my colleagues I have met on this journey and the time they have given me. So far on the programme, I have worked alongside project managers, planners, cost engineers and bid managers.

Q. What three words would you use to describe working at NSG?

A. Teamwork, integrity, fulfilment.

Q. Where do you see your career heading in the future?

A. At this stage, my focus is on completing my apprenticeship. Following that, I will look to see the next opportunities available at NSG.

Q. What advice would you give someone looking to join the nuclear industry?

A. Give it a go! There are plenty of opportunities within the nuclear industry so be willing to try different things.
