Major Nuclear Decommissioning win for NSG Environmental in the Celadon Alliance
NSG are delighted to be able to announce that as part of the Celadon Alliance, we have recently been awarded a five year framework contract for Deplanting, Demolition and Asbestos (DD&A) removal across 10 Magnox power station sites.
Celadon is an alliance of Hertel, KDC and NSG specifically developed to deliver all aspects of the Magnox DD&A framework work scope and is exclusively supported by AMEC, MWH and Halcrow.
Magnox, who operate the sites on behalf of their owner the NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority), has established a pioneering framework model. The Framework, which was developed by working closely with the supply chain, will allow more efficient commercial arrangements between Magnox and Celadon, reducing tendering costs and providing a supply chain ‘toolbox’ to meet the needs of the various projects over the coming years.
The total framework value is estimated to be £304 million for the Demolition, De-planting and Bulk Asbestos removal over the five year contract period. Celadon is one of only two contractors awarded a framework for all three of the work scopes.
The work is at the sites of the UK’s first generation of nuclear power stations and will start in the coming months.
John Morris, Celadon Framework Director, said: “We are delighted to have secured such a prestigious framework after a long and challenging procurement process and are looking forward to working collaboratively with Magnox to deliver safe, innovative and cost effective solutions”.
Alan Bladon, Magnox Programme Director, said: “This gives us a great opportunity to outperform our decommissioning plans by building long term supply chain relationships, learning from experience, and increasing our ability to deliver. This approach will optimise decommissioning which, overall, is expected to save the taxpayer more than £1.3 billion as sites are delivered into care and maintenance.”
This contract award further demonstrates NSG’s status as a preferred partner for multi-disciplined decommissioning works within the UK nuclear industry.
