NSG have a pragmatic approach to waste management challenges and have the capability to set up small scale trials in order to understand and replicate the processes involved.  Small scale bench top development studies are a cost effective way of validating concept designs and providing confidence in developing the solution further.

NSG have the necessary equipment and understanding with which to evaluate prospective wasteforms against the LLW repository and NDA RWMD acceptance criteria.   NSG have the following equipment:

  • Mixing rigs to allow cement encapsulation trials ranging from 1, 20, 200, 500, 2600 litres
  • A compressive strength testing machine
  • A freeze thaw/thermocycler
  • Fume cupboards
  • Rotary evaporator
  • Dewatering test rig

NSG have the capability to measure rheological properties such as particle size distribution, shear vane testing and hardness. By using this equipment we are able to measure, quantify and develop appropriate simulants and  to evaluate the suitability of the final waste package for storage.
