On 21st March 1983, NIS Ltd, with the assistance of Lancashire Enterprises, was formed from B&R Engineering and B&R Fabrications. During the subsequent years NIS grew organically and by acquisition and the milestone was reached in 1993 when NSG Environmental Ltd was purchased. With the acquisition of Petrie Technologies Ltd in 1995, the continuing growth of NIS Ltd in Chorley and the need for individual corporate identity, it became apparent that the Group needed to be reorganised and so in 1997 NIS Holdings Ltd was formed, as the overall parent company.

The underlying focus of the Group is to provide bespoke engineering solutions to a wide range of industries. Whilst the dominant market for the Group is nuclear they have strong links with the aerospace, consumer electronics, security and food industries. By working in a diverse market place they are able to adopt best practices from one and introduce these to another. This leads to innovative and unique solutions in meeting the client's needs. The depth and breadth of the skill and resources within the Group enables the peaks and troughs within individual companies to be smoothed out by the transfer of appropriate skill sets.

The Operating Companies are owned by a parent company NIS Holdings Ltd. Each company operates independently, however there is synergy through technology, markets and values thus there is intercompany trading where there is added value to be gained for our client.

The operating companies within the Group include:

NSG Environmental Ltd - has been providing Decommissioning and Waste Management Services to the United Kingdom civil and defence nuclear installations for more than 20 years. In this time we have gained a unique understanding of radioactive waste management and decommissioning from working on many challenging contracts. Our core skills are in the management and delivery of decommissioning and waste management solutions, utilising a combination of personnel from our two business areas. These business areas are Technical services and Site Operations.
